Congratulations TBT 2023 Ner Tamid Award honoree Carrie Keith
Carrie was born in Ft Worth, Texas and grew up in the small town of Hurst. In college, Carrie majored in Elementary Education at the University of Houston and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS in Education. She minored in Early Childhood Ed. and Psychology. She began her career in teaching in 1978 at Porter Elementary and moved to Humble ISD in 1979.Carrie took several years off to be a stay-at-home mom and then continued teaching until her retirement in 2012. Carrie received the Irving I Samuels Outstanding Teacher Award for Judaic Studies from the Jewish Federation of Houston. She has also been honored as Pine Forest Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year and received the honor of FamilyTime Woman of Achievement in the category of Education.

Carrie met her husband, Dennis while at U of H. They have been married 44 years and have two adult children. Sarah and her husband, Jonathan live in Spring, TX and have 3 children, Isaac, Rachel and a new baby, Esther. Brian and his wife, Alexandra, live in the Boston area and have one daughter, Quinn. The Keiths joined TBT in 1987 and enrolled the kids in Religious School. Carrie jumped right in and started volunteering in the school as co-director of the school. Over the years, she has taught just about every grade, as well as Hebrew.

Carrie said she started to volunteer to give her children a Jewish education but has continued to teach and direct the school, long after her kids have grown, because she gets great pleasure and satisfaction in helping create a safe, supportive place for children and adults to find meaning and joy in being Jewish. In addition to being the director of education, Carrie has served on the board of directors as a member at large, and as president. She has worked on several committees including ritual, social, membership and social justice. In 2009, after 30 years of marriage, she and Dennis renewed their vows at TBT. Carrie’s parents, Bill and Mildred Denbina were also members of TBT and in 2014, the Sukkah was dedicated in their memory. Outside of TBT, Carrie enjoys sewing, crafts, and quilting. She is a member of The Kingwood Area Quilt Guild and Block Party Quilt Bee. She and Dennis also enjoy traveling, especially to national and state parks. Carrie and Dennis are very active in their grandchildren’s lives through babysitting and taking them to museums, the zoo and the park.
With four generations of Carrie’s family touched by TBT, and her dedication and continued service to the temple,

Carrie certainly provides a true eternal light.
