Jeff was born in Manhattan in 1950 to Morris and Esther Kaufman and later moved to Brooklyn. Jeff enrolled in the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and graduated with a BS in Chemical Engineering in 1971. He went on to get a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University in 1972. Following a 44-year career with Exxon, he retired as a senior engineering advisor in 2016. During his tenure with Exxon, Jeff was awarded several
patents on refinery processing.

Jeff married Alice in August 1974 after a short engagement. He joined the Randolph Rescue Squad in 1975 providing volunteer emergency medical service to Randolph Township. Jeff and Alice were blessed with three lovely children: Scott, Martin and Sarah. From 1987 to 1997, the family enjoyed living in Baton Rouge Louisiana before moving to their current home in Kingwood Texas.

Jeff holds the belief that it is the obligation of every Jewish person to promote the continuance of the Jewish faith. He recognized the opportunity to share his experience and skills to contribute to the operation and expansion of Temple Beth Torah. Since the family joined the Temple in 1997, Jeff has served in several leadership positions including President (5 years), Treasurer (5 years) and numerous board of directors positions and committee assignments. Jeff has had many hobbies over the years, but sports is probably the most enduring. Not only has he played several sports he has also coached youth sports. Jeff is an avid baseball fan having been a loyal Mets fan since 1962. During his retirement, his most enjoyable advocation has been playing with his grandkids and participating in their activities.
